The Brandenburg Concertos
Johann Sebastian Bach
Thursday, September 18 at 7:30 pm
Emmanuel Church, 15 Newbury St., Boston“Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos, offered to the Elector of Brandenburg in hope of ensuring his favor, were ignored by the patron. Please join our superb musicians for this musical feast.”

Emmanuel Church
The Orchestra and Chorus of Emmanuel Music, John Harbison, conductor
Charles Blandy, Evangelist
Donald Wilkinson, Jesus
One hour prior to each performance: Pre-concert talks by noted Bach scholar Christoph Wolff
The St. Matthew Passion came directly out of Bach’s most intense four years of Cantata composition. It synthesized and transcended all his previous work in liturgical music. The Emmanuel musicians’ performance brings the depth of knowledge and interpretation that comes from their many years of performing Bach’s great religious music.
