Lajos Bárdos (1899-1986)

Composer, music teacher, and choir director Lajos Bárdos (1899-1986) was one of the most influential figures in twentieth century Hungarian music. Deeply influenced by Renaissance music, especially that of Palestrina, his setting of the medieval Marian hymn Ave maris stella is direct and simple.  Bárdos combines elements of Gregorian chant with radiant harmonies.
