Johannes Brahms (1833-1897)

Today’s motet comes to us from a set of three motets that are the last compositions for mixed choir that Brahms wrote.  Unlike his earlier motets, this Bach-like chorale is stripped to the bone in simplicity, yet is distinguished through the use an almost waltz-like 6/4 meter that is wholly Brahmsian in character.
