Giovanni Gabrieli (1555-1612)

from Symphoniae Sacrae I, 1587

Gabrieli's Plaudite is from Symphoniae Sacrae 1587, a landmark publication of polychoral music from Venice. It is an amalgam of lines from the 66th, 67th, and 68th Psalms. The joyous New Year's spirit of the work is a perfect way to start the new Millennium. One can imagine the brass and the chorus music bouncing from gallery to gallery in the glorious San Marco where the piece was premiered.
