Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina (1525-1594)

Exaltabo Te comes from a set of offertories for five voices. With a focus on creating hope and peace, each phrase provides detailed musical and textual character.  The first phrase “Exaltabo te” is set to a beautiful rising melody of praise. “Quoniam suscepisti me” (for you have sustained me) depicts, in more hushed tones, both the former despair and the new optimism. “Nec delectasti” becomes quite animated with new rejoicing, as “Domine, clamavi ad te” (Lord, I called to you) all the voice parts swell wide open in their upper registers. “Et sanasti me” (and you healed me ) ends the piece with downward sweeping scales, depicting unending gratitude and optimism.
