Meister Eckhart - rendered in verse by Jon M. Sweeney and Mark S. Burrows

"Journey" sets a verse rendering of a text by the German theologian and mystic known as Meister Eckhart (c. 1260 – c. 1328). The stark text speaks of a spiritual path that is necessary to travel yet can only be characterized by what an anonymous mystic later in the 14th century called a “cloud of unknowing”. But that which is most deep and most true in us – call it a soul – can be a trustworthy guide on this mysterious path. Composed for the chamber choir The Crossing and recorded by them on the all-Primosch CD “Carthage”, which was recently nominated for a Grammy for best choral performance, the piece was premiered in 2019 by Emmanuel Music with Ryan Turner conducting.
