James Primosch (1956-2021)

Salve Regina was composed at the request of Rev. John Kamas, SSS, for the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the presence of the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament in the United States.

This short motet was my first entirely new work to be complete after the death of my father in 1999. Since my father prayed the Salve Regina as part of the daily rosary he led at St. Paschal Baylon church, the parish in which I grew up which is staffed by the Blessed Sacrament Fathers, it seemed appropriate to also designate the piece as a memorial to him.

Over the past decade, the Emmanuel Choir had the privilege of performing six a capella motets by the Philadelphia composer James Primosch. In 2007 and 2008 we recorded all of them, live, for CD release. The Salve Regina motet is the only one of the six not composed for our choir.
