Heinrich Schütz (1585-1672)

The Latin concerti in the Kleine Geistliche Konzerte of Schütz all have a special kind of ecstatic intensity. Certainly all of Schütz' settings from the Meditations of St. Augustine have a special quality. Today's concerto not only has an interesting bravura element to the writing for the two sopranos, but also shows the minutist sensitivity to the words of Augustine.
