Heinrich Schütz (1585-1672)

Schütz' setting of "By the Waters of Babylon" is the gravest and most inward of all of Schütz' Psalms of David, published in 1619.  the eight-voice setting shows the emotional extremes with which Schütz was working in his adoption of the Gabrieli polychoral style.
