Heinrich Schütz (1585-1672)

From the grandeur of the opening moments, "Herr, auf dich traue ich" is clearly one of the heaven-seeking motets. But the first broad phrase is immediately answered by a fragile response. Each subsequent line has its own distinct profile. In a short space Schütz makes every moment of this prayer stand out distinctly and passionately. The text on the page hardly suggests such possibilities.
