Letter from Artistic Director, Ryan Turner
Dear Friends of Emmanuel Music,
Join me in celebrating the virtuosity and vitality of Emmanuel Music's 40th season. With Bach as our core and weekly companion, we will draw upon the strengths of our past, with an eye to the future. My relationship with Emmanuel began in 1997 as a singer. Under Craig Smith, I fondly remember learning Handel oratorios, Bach cantatas, Schubert lieder and chamber music, and Mozart operas.
It is in that spirit of tradition that we will embark on an exciting new journey. This season that journey includes an ode by Handel -- a composer to which Craig Smith and Emmanuel Music have brought unique insights -- and a Stravinsky opera in Mozartean style - bringing one of my favorite composers to Emmanuel Music while acknowledging Craig and his incredible performances of Mozart operas. Our multi-year series of chamber and vocal music turns to Beethoven and promises to feature hidden gems. In this my inaugural season as Artistic Director, I am truly thrilled and honored to lead Boston's most versatile ensemble.
