When I listened to BWV 65, I noticed that the theme of the original work was about gift-giving: specifically Jesus being given precious gifts of gold, incense and myrrh. I wanted to reflect the feelings of the main narrator within BWV 65 - someone who wants to part with a precious object so that they can give it to Jesus.
In my piece, I drew someone giving a beautiful, ornate box to an anonymous recipient. While the context of this gesture is different to the gesture in BWV 65, I wanted to convey a similar level of intimacy. To do this, I emphasized the preciousness of the gift through the expressions of the hands I drew; such as the gently outstretched hands of the recipient, or the carefully cupped hands of the giver.
