Well into his compositional career, Stravinsky discovered the past, drawing inspiration from the music of the Baroque. Dumbarton Oaks quotes the Bach Brandenburg Concerto No. 3, and Fancy on a Bach Air, by contemporary composer John Corigliano, recalls the Bach cello suites. Our concert concludes with one of Stravinsky’s earliest neo-classical works, Pulcinella, a ballet based on the 18th century play after themes by Pergolesi.
