Schütz’ monumental setting of Psalm 8 is one of the grandest Psalm settings in The Psalmen Davids 1619. The eight voice chorus is supplemented by five brass parts that punctuate the lines "Lord our Ruler, how glorious is your name" that appear throughout the psalm. The grand Gabrieli manner is here layered into a more intimate style for the verses.
