Bella LaMontagne

BWV 158

When I created this piece I was moved and inspired by the root of BWV 158, the element of peace. I created the collage in quarters to match the four movements of the cantata and used various floral designs to create a visual flow in response to the music. There is a young woman in the center who has her head down in reflection. As I listened to the cantata and afterwards read the translation, it is clear there is a conversation occurring. For my piece I took this conversation as a self reflective one. I sought to capture the internal struggle of an individual who seeks to find tranquility in a chaotic world. The girl transitions to look up at the beings who are playing the music and she feels a sense of harmony and joy. This is how I felt listening to BWV 158. I felt transported to a place of peace while listening to this moving composition.
