Johann Hermann Schein

Das ist mir lieb, daß der Herr
Mein Stimm und Flehen höret,
Daß er sein’ Ohre zu mir neiget.
Darum will ich ihn mein Leben lang anrufen.

Stricke des Todes
Hatten mich umfangen,
Und Angst der Höllen
Hatten mich troffen.
Ich kam in Jammer und Not,
Aber ich rief an den Namen des Herren:
O Herr, errette meine Seele.

Der Herr ist gnädig und gerecht,
Und unser Gott ist barmherzig,
Der Herr behütet die Einfältigen;
Wenn ich unterliege, so hilft er mir.

Sei nun wieder zufrieden, meine Seele
Denn der Herr tut dir Guts.
Denn du hast meine Seele aus dem Tode
Gerissen. Mein Auge von den Tränen,
Mein Fuß vom Gleiten.
Ich will wandeln vor dem Herrn
Im Lande der Lebendigen.
Ich glaube, darum rede ich.
Ich werde aber sehr geplagt.
Ich sprach in meinem Zagen:
“Alle Menschen sind Lügner.”
Wie soll ich dem Herrn vergelten
Alle seine Wohltat, die er mir tut?

Ich will den heilsamen Kelch nehmen
Und des Herren Namen predigen.
Ich will meine Gelübde dem Herren
Bezahlen vor allem seinem Volk.
Der Tod seiner Heiligen ist
Wertgehalten vor dem Herrn.
O Herr, ich bein dein Knecht,
Deiner Magd Sohn.
Du hast meine Bande zerrissen.
Dir will ich Dank opfern
Und des Herren Namen predigen.
Ich will meine Gelübde dem Herren
Bezhalen vor allem seinem Volk.

In den Höfen am Haus des Herren,
In dir, Jerusalem, Halleluja!

It is pleasing to me that the Lord
Hears my voice and my pleading,
That he bends his ear to me.
Therefore will I call unto him through my whole life.

The fetters of death
Have imprisoned me,
And the fear of Hell
Has assaulted me.
I was born to stress and hardship.
But I call out the name of the Lord;
O Lord, save my soul.

The Lord is gracious and righteous,
And our God is merciful.
The Lord shelters the unfortunate;
If I am brought low, he will help me.

Be then satisfied, my soul,
For the Lord does well for you.
Fro you have pulled away my soul
From death, my eyes from tears,
My foot from sliding.
I will walk before the Lord
In the land of the living.
I believe – therefore I speak.
I was, however, very harried.
I spoke in my despair:
“All men are liars.”
How shall I recompense the Lord
For all the good things that he has done for me?

I will take up the holy chalice
And pray in the name of the Lord,
I will pay my tithe to the Lord
On behalf of all his people.
The death of his faithful
Is precious to the Lord.
O Lord, I am your servant,
The son of your handmaid.
You have torn away my bond.
I will offer you thanks,
And pray in the name of the Lord.
I will pay my tithe to the Lord,
On behalf of all his people.

In the courtyards of the house of the Lord,
In the midst of you, Jerusalem, Hallelujah!

Psalm 116
