Heinrich Schütz (1585-1672)

The Cantiones Sacrae were published by Schütz in 1624 and are among his most Italianate works.  Our motet today, "Spes mea," is one of the several Augustinian texts.  It represents Schütz at his most lyrical.  Certainly the warmth of both the Augustinian ideals, as well as the Italian style, make our work one of Schütz' most appealing motets.
